Emily “Chip” Hughes began dancing as a young child, performing with her mother in FSU’s Days of Dance and with Women’s Dance Project. At five years old, she started taking ballet classes at Southern Academy of Ballet Arts, where she was given the nickname “Chip” by Ms. Natalia Botha. In 2001, Chip began performing with the Pas de Vie Ballet, appearing in numerous productions of The Nutcracker as a Party Child and Mouse and later progressing to “Waltz of the Flowers,” “Snow,” “Merlitons,” and the “Columbine Doll.” Chip has also performed in the annual Spotlight on Dance spring show for several years. Some of Chip’s favorite roles include Little Red Riding Hood in Sleeping Beauty, Lalena in Tuned in Time, and the Young Widow in Saturday Night Hoedown. She has enjoyed spending so many years with Pas de Vie and looks forward to performing with the company in their 25th season. Now a senior in Family and Child Sciences at FSU, she continues to take classes at SABA and loves every minute of it.
